Today was the finals of the southwest divisional
climbing championship. Climbers from Southern
California to Colorado competed for invitations to
represent the southwest division at the nationals in
Ann Arbor in July.
Chauncey did well winning both her speed and difficulty events. Here's a shot of her on her next to last move before falling.
Also, Jesse Youngwerth from Colorado Springs got second and did very well today. Tyler Youngwerth also made it to nationals.
Taya got 6th today but because she did well yesterday, the way the invite formula works, she got a nationals invite.
Taya got 9th in speed, so won't qualify in speed. Nakoa also finished 4th in speed so he qualified for nationals in speed. He also went into the difficulty finals event in 9th, but finished 5th today and 5th overall, so he did great and will also get an invite to nationals.
So, was a good day for the Cox climbers - all 3 will advance to nationals. I added more shots of today's event to the Albuquerque Div II photo album.
